Article 23- Bexhill Testimony

I had not been to Bexhill-on-sea before but I wanted to see what it was like and if  there was a suitable place to stand and preach on my next visit.   I walked up and down the crowded streets silently talking with the Lord.  Unexpectedly I met Henry and Betty, who were shopping with one of their friends.  I explained my mission.

‘When are you planning to come?’ Henry inquired.

‘Probably on Saturday.’

‘Oh do give us a ring when you arrive, we would love to join you,’ Betty sounded enthusiastic, ‘We would, wouldn’t we Henry?’  Henry nodded in agreement.

Saturday was a lovely bright day with the sun sparkling on the sea.  I stood hesitating outside a ‘phone box, should I telephone my friends or not?  I decided to ring.  Betty answered.

‘Tony Daly here,’ I’m in Western Road, would you like to join me?

‘Sorry, not today.  Henry is cutting the grass and I’m preparing lunch, we have an unexpected guest coming.

Feeling a little downhearted I put the ‘phone down and left the  ‘phone box.   I bowed my head and was just in the act  of saying, ‘Lord…’ when I felt a movement beside me.

‘Are those Christian tracts?’  I looked up to see a short, middle-aged lady.

‘Yes they are.’  I was unaware there were some tracts in my hand

‘Please give me some, I want to help you.  This dear lady explained that she was a worker at the Christian book shop nearby and could spend some time assisting me.  My spirit lifted, disappointment forgotten as we started to hand out the tracts to the shoppers and holiday makers who were passing by.

I was about to learn of God’s appointments, Divine appointments as I  responded in faith to the Holy Spirit.

After a while the lady said, ‘I’m sorry, I have to go now.  Goodbye.  God bless you.’  Once again I was  on my own.

A little later I had raised my voice to preach the Gospel when another lady came round the corner and stood beside me, she was elderly and looked frail.  I continued with my message but when it reached its conclusion, she turned and almost shaking with emotion, pointed her finger at me, shouting to the listeners,

‘I don’t know who this man is but I believe what he is saying.  I gave my heart to Jesus Christ when I was a little girl.  I have followed Jesus as my Lord and Saviour these last years.’  Grace, that was her name, continued to give her testimony, half preaching, half testifying of God’s goodness and grace.  I stood in wonderment and amazement  Afterwards we shared fellowship together.

‘I was around the corner asking the Lord,  Why isn’t anyone preaching in this town Lord?’  As I got to the corner I could hear you.  The Lord has sent you to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.’  Grace stood with me for a while then she to had to go on her way. We said, ‘Goodbye,’ and I stood with the last remaining tracts in my hand.  Soon they were all gone.

Then I met David.  He explained he was a ‘Born Again Believer’ and showed interest.  I told him I had run out of tracts and had none to give out.

‘Wait a minute,’ he said and dashed off down the road.  Within minutes he returned with a shoulder bag full of Gospel tracts.  The Lord had sent another helper to stand with me.

That Saturday I learnt that if I talk to the Lord continually, follow the secret walk in the Spirit and listen to that still small voice, He will send helpers  when they’re needed and I will see His hand in Divine appointments
